SYMPTOMS
You experience one of the following symptoms in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0:
After you map sample data that you bring into Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 by
using the Sample Data Wizard, you receive the following error message: User
Name is invalid • You cannot see the records for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM
user after you run the Sample Data Wizard. This is true even if the Microsoft
Dynamics CRM user is correctly mapped. For example, you cannot see the Leads
records and the Tasks records for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM user. Therefore,
the sample data is installed incorrectly. Additionally, you receive the
following error message in the SampleDataWizard.log file: Sample Data Wizard
started at
Fresh Installation started at -
fetch organization -
Created Business Units and Users. -
Imported workflows. -
Created Emails -
Created Subjects. -
Created Territories. -
Created Teams. -

Note In this error message,
represents the actual date and
the actual time. For example, the actual date and the actual
time could be "7/19/2007 8:54:07 AM."
CAUSE
This problem occurs if either of the following conditions is true:
The Restricted Access Mode check box is selected on your user record. See
Resolution 1.
You create active Microsoft Dynamics CRM users before you run the Sample Data
Wizard. Additionally, the Restricted Access Mode check box is not selected on
your user record.See Resolution 2.
RESOLUTION
Resolution 1
To resolve this problem, follow these steps to clear the Restricted Access Mode
check box:
1. Log on to the Microsoft CRM Web client as a user who is
assigned the Microsoft CRM System Administrator role.
2. Click Go To, point to Settings, click Settings, click
Business Unit Settings, and then click Users.
3. Double-click the user account who tried to import the
sample data.
4. Click to clear the Restricted Access Mode check box.
5. Click Save and Close.
6. Restart the Sample Data Wizard.
Note This method uses a license for the System Administrator account.
Resolution 2
To resolve this problem, disable the active Microsoft Dynamics CRM users before
you start the Sample Data Wizard. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Log on to Microsoft Dynamics CRM as a user who is assigned
the Microsoft CRM System Administrator role.
2. On the Settings menu, click Business Unit Settings, and
then click Users.
3. Select all the active Microsoft Dynamics CRM users. You do
not have to select the administrator.
4. On the More Actions menu, click Disable.
5. Click OK.
6. Restart the Sample Data Wizard.
